Mr. James Tew Pee Seng
Before joining SDH Institute James was the Centre Manager with a social enterprise which offers PMET courses in the specialization areas of Infocomm Technology and Service Excellence. From 2007 to 2012, James was with an education group with colleges in the Asia-pacific region, and held the leadership role as the Academic Director in the School of Business Singapore, and later in Hong Kong (2010 to 2012). A decade ago James took up the appointment as the Centre Manager with the Restaurant Association of Singapore, where he managed the academic quality assurance and operations of the training centre.
Prior to joining the education industry James had worked in both the private and public sectors. From 1993 to 2001, James held the position of Senior Manager, Commercial Division of COSCO Marine Engineering (S) Pte Ltd, which is a subsidiary of COSCO Investment Limited, and in 1994, he was appointed as an executive director to the Board of Directors. From 1988 to 1992, James was a trainer and consultant with the former National Productivity Board of Singapore, and his last position was franchise consultant in the newly set-up Franchise Development Unit. Prior to this James was a Business Administration Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and senior HR executive with the public-listed company Singapore Food Industries Ltd.
James holds a MA (HRD) degree awarded by the University of Saint Thomas, a BBA from the National University of Singapore, a Graduate Diploma in Training Management, and certificates in Management Consultancy and Productivity Management from the former National Productivity Board of Singapore as well as the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Mr. Fred Utanes
Senior Lecturer and Programme Head
Mr Fred Utanes has behind him 30 years of professional experience that spans the diverse fields of training and education, entrepreneurship, non-profit organisations, and defence. He had an illustrious career with Informatics Holdings Ltd in Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Laos. He held sensitive positions as Chief Operating Officer (COO), Senior Vice President, Director, and/or General Manager of different country operations in his 13 long years with Informatics. His stint with a San Francisco (USA)-based web development firm as General Manager was also one of his career highlights. To add to these, he had the opportunity to gain rich experience in the MICE industry doing trade exhibitions and advertising sales for Seatrade, a publication company based in UK.
Mr. Barry Hayes
Mr Barry Hayes has over 30 years of professional experience that spans across diverse areas of our industry, such as Coaching, Training and Development, Events and Hospitality and Tourism before becoming an educator in these specialised areas.
In his younger and adventurous days Barry spent time race sailing and coaching around the UK and Europe. Significantly, he coached at the international level at Plas Menai, the renowned National Water-Sports Centre for England and Wale. Barry also completed a three Hospitality Managements trainee programme with the Trusthouse forte group.
In 1998 he came to Asia to assist in setting up a water sports company and has stayed on since. In 2001 Barry led and event managed his first of five annual AWT Asian windsurfing tours which was telecasted around the world by Star Sports. During these ten years, Barry also managed a group of resort/hotels in South East Asia specialising in leisure & water sports; with GM postings in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. He then settled down permanently in Singapore where he was the Director Representative for the group’s resorts in South East Asia.
Barry was also instrumental in building the $2m water sports Centre on the East Coast in 2008. In 2009, Barry returned to his passion of lecturing to the future managers of this great industry and has since held several senior lecturing and management positions in the private education industry.
Barry possesses a Master of Science (MSc) in Sports Business Management and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in combined studies involving tourism, leisure, and business management, both conferred by UK universities. He is a certified trainer, assessor, curriculum developer (ACTA) and a registered Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT - USA). Barry holds a professional membership for the Institute for Hospitality (UK) along with a Fellowship from the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
Barry is a Senior Lecturer at SDH where he is continuing his studies for a PhD specializing in the hospitality research.
Mr. Isaac Joshua
Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head (Academics)
Mr. Isaac Joshua is a Senior Lecturer in the hospitality faculty since 2007 delivering International Hospitality Management programmes.
Mr. Isaac has extensive experience in both the domestic and international hospitality market. His international experience was gained in Singapore with Shatec, Raffles Hotel, Goodwood Park Hotel as well as managing various high-level ministerial events before moving on to manage an European chain of restaurants within Asia in the capacity of Operations, Training & Development Manager.
Mr. Isaac has undertaken a range of projects which include provision of various Food & Beverage Training for the industry, internship management; and the creation of operational solutions for local hospitality companies.
Mr. Isaac holds a MBA (Hospitality Management) from European University, Montreux, a BA Hospitality & Tourism Management from Queen Margaret University and the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge. A fervent believer of lifelong learning, he’s currently pursuing his Specialist Diploma in Applied Learning and Teaching from the Republic Polytechnic apart from constantly seeking innovative and creative methods of improving hospitality education and hospitality processes for the industry.
Mr. Albrightson Craig
Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head (Development)
Craig has spent more than 12 years working in education, including national universities, government and private schools in Singapore, Japan and South Africa. In his career thus far, he has played various roles, including lecturer in philosophy, ethics, logic and English. He has designed and taught courses in teacher training and designed and run teacher development programmes. His strengths include curriculum development, Developmental and Language Acquisition Psychology and Meta-ethics. He is quiet and reserved in nature, but loves the thrill of an active learning environment and gets a kick out of engaging students, nurturing ideas and abilities and watching people grow.
Mr. Craig holds a MA in Philosophy, University of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. He also holds a BSocSc (Hons) in Philosophy and a BSocSc in Psychology and Philosophy.
Mr. Edwin Yeong
Mr Edwin Yeong is a full-time lecturer at SDH Institute. He has more than 10 years of teaching experience. He is very familiar with the local education system and MOE syllabus. Mr Edwin has taught English to speakers of other languages and understands the difficulties faced by them.
Mr Edwin holds a Degree in Business Computing and a Diploma in Electronics, Computers and Communications. He also holds a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) from the University of Cambridge. Mr Edwin has also attended other teaching courses at the British Council.
Mr Edwin has worked in the IT industry for a number of years and conducted IT training classes when he was working in an IT firm. He likes teaching and interacting with his students. When he delivers his lessons, his objective is to present the topics as simple as possible. He believes many things can be explained in simple ways.
Mr. Anthony Sean D'Amico
Mr Anthony Sean D'Amico has spent the last three years as a volunteer educator in Peru, an English Language teacher at both a large language school and an international school in Jakarta, Indonesia and has most recently worked at the tertiary education level in Singapore.
He has experience working with students from a number of different backgrounds in varying regions throughout the world. Tony develops strong relationships with his students and nurtures an enjoyable, comfortable, and thought provoking environment in his classroom. Challenging students, and bringing them out of their comfort zone to help them develop their skills, are what he enjoys most as a teacher.
Tony holds a BA in History with a minor in International Studies from Central Washington University. He also has an English Teaching Certification from TEFL International.
Mr. Murali Nair
Industry Advisor and Principal Lecturer
Mr. Murali Nair embarked on a career in Hotel Management almost 30 years ago, armed with a Diploma from Switzerland and a Bachelor‟s degree in Travel Industry Management (Hotel Management) from the University of Hawaii, Manoa.
Mr. Ng Puay Chuan
Senior Associate Lecturer
Mr. Ng Puay Chuan has a wealth of teaching experience, as well as 30 years of excellent career record in Senior Management and Board member position with MNC and public listed corporations. Over the years, he led corporations in general management, business development, finance and management accounting in various industries such as services, manufacturing and building maintenance and construction.
He obtained an Executive MBA from Golden Gate University (USA) and a Bachelor degree in Business majoring in Finance from RMIT (Australia). His role in SD’H covers lecturing in Corporate Finance, Management and Financial Accounting and Business Management modules.
Mr. Lim Chee Kong
Senior Associate Lecturer
Mr. Lim Chee Kong is a management practitioner and an adjunct lecturer of SDH Institute. He is currently the General Manager of a motorcycle helmet distribution company. He is also a committee member of a workgroup on the review of SS9 protective helmets for motorcyclists, which is headed by Traffic Police.
Chee Kong started his career as a Branch-In-Charge for a supermarket retailer in Singapore. Next, he spent the next 5 years doing international sales and marketing of food products in the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, North America and Oceania.
Chee Kong obtained his MBA from Essec Business School, a grand ecole in Paris, France. He also has a BA in Business and Finance from the University of Portsmouth, UK, and a Specialist Diploma in Supply Chain Management from Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore. He is fluent in English and Mandarin, and conversant in French.
Mr. Kassey Kalleichelven
Senior Associate Lecturer
Kassey Kalleichelven holds 23 years of industry experience, specializing in managing people and customer service/relationship management. His corporate expertise and experience in service quality and marketing/sales, coupled with his excellent customer relations, had won him numerous Awards like the LTA's Excellence Service Awards (EXSA)-Star winning it twice, in 2005 and 2008 respectively. He had also won the National Courtesy-Transport Gold Awards in 2001 and 2007.
After winning the National Mr. Manhunt 2000 title, he started Image Consultancy, conducting Personal Grooming and Projecting a Professional Image (PPI) training and workshops for the service industry specialing more for the Hospitality and Tourism sectors. He believes having a strong interest in customer relationship management and service excellence will give an organisation a leading edge in a competitive, global economy. Being a firm believer of a lifelong learning philosophy, he hopes to help students appreciate the essence of self-directed learning and the ability to acquire skills to resolve real life problems in the dynamic world we live in.
Kassey Kalleichelven also possesses a BSc (Honours) in Business Studies, with specialisation in Human Resource Management from Loughborough University (United Kingdom).
Mr. Lee Kern Tzen
Senior Associate Lecturer
Mr. Lee Kern Tzen, is a certified trainer with: Save the Children Singapore (Trybe), OTi Consulting Singapore, SDH Institute, Bridge Training Consulting International (Bridge TCI) and Kurioslee Pte. Ltd.
As Head Trainer for Kurioslee PTE LTD, Kern has conducted training programs for over 90 educational institutions and corporations in Singapore. Kern is a lead facilitator for programs, such as "You can do it!", "Dare to Dream!", Time Management, Stress Management and Service Leadership. Kern has developed and contextualized training programmes for MNC’s in Customer Relationship Management, Human Resource Development, and Business English Courses. As the Managing Director of Kurioslee PTE LTD Kern heads the Training and Devleopment team who are certified by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

Mr. Kern graduated with Cum Laude and Honors from Dominican University of California in International Business Management and Communications. He is also a graduate of Cambridge's Certification of English Language Teaching for Adults (CELTA). He has also completed his Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment with (IAL and Victoria University). During his university years, Kern focused on Business, Communications and Finance. He served as the Producer and radio DJ for Dominican's online radio program, where he gained valuable experience in radio broadcasting. Conceptualized as a talk show to highlight issues faced by youths of today, "Face 2 Face" is his self-produced, hosted, and scripted show. "Face 2 Face" was broadcasted to students in Korea, India, Afghanistan, Brazil, Australia, United States and Singapore, reaching a maximum of 10,000 viewers worldwide.
Kern enjoys communicating in front of groups of people. He has a passion for helping youths, families and companies learn how to communicate better. He runs his own business, Kurioslee Pte. Ltd. He had been working with schools as an IELTS, TOEFL and English Instructor before venturing on his own. Kern also partners with Bridge TCi in Istanbul, Turkey developing career development courses for Bosphorus (Bogazici) University students and alumni. As lead trainer, Kern focuses on mentoring and individual-based training.

Ms. Helene Lauras
Senior Associate Lecturer
Hélène Lauras is a 33 years old French business woman, currently based in Singapore with her husband and two young kids.
Born in the South West of France, she graduated from Bordeaux Hospitality Management School and went on an international career that first took her in San Francisco, Paris, Barcelona and Edinburgh and then to China, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and finally Singapore.
Working her way up to become Food and Beverage Operations Director for luxury hotels such as Pan Pacific, Sofitel, Hyatt and Swissôtel, Hélène has specialized in managing large and challenging operations.
Involved from the point of creation, she has opened a dozen of restaurants, bars and clubs, 5 of them with internationally renowned Designers, and was, at 26 years old the youngest and only woman F&B Director within Bangkok’s top ten Luxury Hotels.
Gathering over a decade of immersion in Asian culture, Hélène understands the challenges that surround the creation of a continuous culture of Service Excellence in countries where vocational specializations do not generally command as high a degree of respect than the Academic’s path.
She incorporated her own Consulting Company; Petit Pois Consulting in May 2013, offering professional consulting and “out of the box” educational services to all type of businesses where Service is a key differentiating factor, from Hospitality, to retail, restaurants, banks, education and many more.
Ms. Lum Pee Ling
Senior Associate Lecturer
Ms Lum Pee Ling is an adjunct lecturer in SDH Institute. Prior to teaching, her career covered 22 years in the hotel industry and included working with leading brand names like the Starwood Hotels and Resorts and the Fullerton Hotel.
In her rich hotel experience, Pee Ling has a proven track record of executing and facilitating pre-opening of hotels, renovation projects and leading process improvement initiatives. In these undertakings, she played a key role in various phases, from the design phase to the setting up of new guestrooms, restaurants and function spaces. Concurrent to these heavy responsibilities, she was also key facilitator and trainer for different service programmes.
Pee Ling’s career also involved benchmarking exercises which included quality audit checks in Hong Kong, Sydney, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Furthermore, she was actively involved in hotels’ personnel recruitment in China, Indonesia and Philippines. Pee Ling holds a Masters of Business Administration in Hospitality Management with Distinction from Queen Margaret University, Edinburg. She was granted a Scholarship by Starwood Hotels and Resorts for the Higher Diploma in Hotel Management conferred by the Singapore Hotel Association Training and Educational Centre.
