Introduction

SD’H’s Post Graduate Diploma Programmes are for individuals who want to acquire the specialised knowledge and qualifications required to enter the hospitality and gaming industry, or for existing professionals who aspire to career progression. Students will learn from a network of established industry practitioners; this will enable them to have an extra edge in securing fruitful employment and build their careers upon graduation. Students will gain a solid understanding of the business and management aspects of the hospitality and gaming industry.

The Post Graduate Diploma programmes can be completed in 12 months for full-time and 18 months for part-time.

Entry Requirements

  • Polytechnic Diploma holder with 2 years of relevant management experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree from recognised institutions or equivalent
  • English Proficiency: IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 550 or completed SD’H English Higher Intermediate Level

Course Synopsis

1. Financial Management 
Provides students with a sound knowledge of the theoretical tools needed to carry out financial analysis in the decision-making process. The module also provides an analysis of alternative investment projects and the preparation of corresponding budgets. It is a managerial approach to financial analysis, planning and control, the management of working capital, long-term assets and long-term financing.

2. Human Resource Management 
Analyses human resource problems and issues; their translation into corporate policies; urban, cultural and legal realities in human resource matters; decisions affecting the development and management of human resources policies. Legal issues arereviewed in detail.

3. Management Information Systems
Information Systems Focuses on the use of computerised information systems in business. The course examines data communications, information retrieval and distributed systems.

4. Strategic Management 
Students will learn about strategies and their integrative role in management. Students also learn the process of turning strategic intentions into action and the steps required to implement different strategies in a global and competitive environment.

5. Marketing 
Once the students are familiar with all the components of the marketing mix, they learn how to develop marketing strategies and prepare complete marketing plans for companies in different sectors, environments and situations, in accordance with their global policies and strategies.

6. Managerial Accounting 
Enables potential managers to learn about users and providers of management accounting information. Students also learn internal accounting terms and procedures; use of accounting data in planning, control and performance evaluation; assumptions and limitations of conventional accounting measurements.

7. Hospitality Management 
Gives students the opportunity to gain an understanding of operational management skills and apply theoretical concepts in the hospitality environment. This module includes the delivery and assessment of operational management practices such as quality management, risk assessment, legislative controls, financial control, training and motivation. Students will plan, execute and reflect on an event undertaken within the hospitality industry.

8. Management of International Tourism 
Provides comprehensive coverage of key business concepts in international tourism management including tourism demand and forecasting, research and innovation, corporate strategy, environmental issues, marketing, finance and operations and human capital management.

Specialisations

1. Casino Operations Management 
Gives an overview of the history and development of the gaming industry. Basic casino managerial techniques are covered with an emphasis on protection of casino games, staffing, labour/management relations and floor/pit and shift supervision.

2. Casino Marketing (MCM303)
Examines the application of traditional marketing functions to the casino industry. Students will develop plans using convention and promotional events as marketing tools.
