(Diploma in Hospitality Management, class of 2010)

I am a full time student and my name is Janna Binti Rahiman aged 40years old. I am taking diploma in hospitality management in the School D'Hospitality ending March 2011. All thanks to the consultant who encouraged me to further study although my age is catching up and on top of that, I am a single parent with son still schooling at Republic Polytechnic. All the staff and lecturers are always there to listen to student's views and problems. They tried to give ideas on how to solve the problems and they did follow up on the students after that. The school trained and disciplined the student for the better future. They guided students entering the career path by inviting the managers from hospitality industry giving speech to students for job opportunities and how it goes about.

School D’ Hospitality is a nice environment to study in with experienced and knowledgeable lecturers. Apart from the usual theory learnt from textbooks, I have learnt and experienced the proper dining etiquette in a fine dining restaurant and participated in outdoor activities organized by the lecturers that not only helps the foreign students but also the local students to have a better understanding on Singapore’s attractions. In addition to the above, lecturers had helped us understand ourselves even more through some personality tests, preparation of CVs and cover letters, which helps us to prepare for interviews in the actual hospitality industry. I find the grooming classes very useful as it prepared us for the working society. Overall, SDH had prepared and equipped me with the necessary skills to start working in the hospitality industry.

Goh Kher Wei (Diploma in Events Management, class of 2010)

I've always wanted to venture into the events management field and I've found the right course here, at School D' Hospitality. The Diploma in Events Management course has greatly enhanced my knowledge required in both theoretical and practical areas. For my core module “Events Management I”, I had the opportunity to organise a school event with my classmates. It was an enriching learning experience as we worked together as a team, towards a common goal of success.

School D’ hospitality is a school where your teachers double up as your friends. The lecturers will do anything to help you succeed and excel in whatever you do. SD’H is where your dreams are given a second chance. I find SDH to be a comfortable environment for me to study in and also a great place to be at.

Allan Chong Hin Chuen (Diploma in Casino Management, class of 2008)

The course has given me more exposure to the casino industry. I have also gained more gaming table experience from the hand skill course which helped me to be more confident during the interview.

SD’H has helped me gain a lot of new knowledge. The modules are interesting and I have definitely learnt new skills while on the course.

Ang Wai Siong (Diploma in Casino Management, class of 2008)

The course helps me to understand the casino games and rules better and I can calculate the payout better. I believe I was accepted by Marina Sands because I’m equipped with the Basic Hand Skill certification with SD’H.

I definitely feel that SD’H has very good lecturers like Angelito. Angelito has many years of experience working in different casinos and I have really learnt a lot from him. The skills and knowledge that I had learnt during this course has really helped me in getting this job.

Furthermore, studying this course allows me to work full-time in the day and study part-time at night.

Janice Tan Bee Chen (Diploma in Casino Management, class of 2008)

The course has helped me to understand more about the operations behind casino management. I also got to learn more about the front line of casinos, like how the dealer can count so fast.

It has been good studying at SD’H so far. I previously had zero knowledge on casinos, and the course has taught me a whole lot of casino-related skills and knowledge. I know more about the casino industry now, and also even about the history of casinos. The casino element of the course is very comprehensive.

Mok Jing Jing  (Certificate in Basic Hand Skills and Games, class of 2008)

Anne Ong Lian Lee (Diploma in Casino Management, class of 2008)

The course has provided me with a clearer picture on the role of a dealer. The hand skills course has been very useful as it gives us an overview of the practical skills needed by a dealer.

The knowledge of these casino games helped during the interview. Furthermore, interviewers were also impressed when I could answer their mental calculations accurately and quickly during the interview.

I find the lecturers in SD’H to be very helpful and friendly. My course mates are also very co-operative and fun to be with, making the course very enjoyable. Furthermore, our lecturers are very experienced and friendly. For instance, Angelito treats us like friends and is always available to give us advice.

Sanjeve S/O Sekar (Diploma in Casino Management, class of 2008)

The course has given me an added advantage over other applicants. A lot of people who applied don’t have experience. Even for those who have been accepted, some of them do not have the experience and knowledge of table games and this gives me a head-start against other new hires.

Some of the courses are very relevant like facility management. The lecturer (Mr. Isaac) has been in the industry for a long time and he is very experience. During lessons, he is able to draw examples from his experience and share them with us. This makes the classes more interesting, exciting and relevant to what we are studying.

As most of us come from work, interesting lessons such as this makes us look forward to coming to classes in the evening. Courses such as fine dining are also very practical as it is a useful skill to learn in the gaming industry.

Terrence Thong Kat Keong (Diploma in Casino Management, class of 2008)

SDH has very good lecturers. This course provides me with an in-depth understanding of the workings in a casino. The topics taught helps to prepare me to handle the games in the Casino.
